Witness: Four Mourning Mothers
September 19, 2024 4-9pm at the Butterfly House
9138 Goodwin St, Detroit, MI 48211
This opera is a story of a woman, a widow, a family and a legacy for you and me. What happens in a world where people should be beyond certain strains of the past, yet those stains and pains resurge again and again never really quite healing or bringing to pass myths, fears, and a hidden hatred for one another. This is a story about healing the wounds of the past, loving who you are, your heritage and taking pride in your contributions to the world. It is about rising up even in the face of oppression, bringing love, peace and redemption in a very wounded world. The opera covers four time periods, the 1600’s, 1800’s, 1950’s and 21st century.
